Hey Montu!

I heard you're looking for a Senior Designer.

I think my 18 years experience as a creative professional, including 7 years in the legal cannabis industry make me an easy choice! But instead of telling you, I thought I could show you!

I've been working in this field for almost 20 years and in that time I've done just about everything the industry could throw at me, from formatting stuffy corporate annual reports to animating instructional videos for kids and even creating props and set dressing for movies and TV shows.

I grew up in Australia, and have only recently returned after living in Vancouver, Canada for 11 years, and I spent the majority of my professional time over there creating artwork for the cannabis industry.

The cover design features a teenage boy in a hoody writing on a pad of paper, first in a classroom, then on the banks of a lake. The title reads "Take a Hike Foundation Donor Report 2016-2017". An interior spread features infographic style elements describing the performance of the organization under the title "2016-17 School Year Metrics".A collection of screenshots of a website for a business called "The Baker & The Chef"Image

As the Senior Graphic Designer at West Coast Gifts, one of North America's largest cannabis accessories wholesalers, I created exciting new brands and products and helped shape the visual direction of the industry at large.
By working closely with cannabis retailers and distributors I had front row seats for the evolution of the visual language across the entire space.

Montu is at an exciting point in its remarkable growth of having the opportunity to put a stamp on the visual language of cannabis in Australia, and as a way of demonstrating the skills, leadership and insight I could bring to the Senior Designer role at Montu, I decided to imagine a new brand and create a complete package introducing the brand's visual style and where it could sit in the market.

I decided to imagine a new brand and create a complete package introducing the brand's visual style and where it could sit in the market.

And so, introducing...

Cutting edge technology delivering precise, effective medication in the form of delicious, convenient snacks.

The Target:

Middle aged, professional women and men with disposable incomes who have never used cannabis, and are looking for a simple, less intimidating entry point.

The Insight:

Edibles are one of the least intimidating entry points into trying medical cannabis and are attractive to potential users who have no interest in smoking or vaporising. In North America, however, many commercial edible brands are designed to target a cheesy "stoner" aesthetic, or have problematic designs imitating existing snack brands.

The Idea:

Use modern, clean, tech startup inspired imagery to appeal to adult professionals, while reinforcing a culture and reputation of high quality, effective, trustworthy medical products.

Image

Gummies

Nebula's flagship Gummies are a perfect introduction to cannabis for new users who might be intimidated by choosing a strain or strength, or reticent to invest in a quality vaporizer.  Relatively low doses and clear, inviting imagery help to ensure an enjoyable experience for newcomers.

Image

The high quality packaging and tech/science/space theme appeal to our target market and instill trust.

Image

Flavours are named after constellations, reinforcing the theme, and strains and strengths are repeated in different flavours allowing customers to find their favourite.

Image

Asteroids

A play on Altoids, these small, low-dose drops are even less intimidating! Inexpensive, familiar and perfect as a little nudge to help you sleep. And the reusable, branded metal tin promotes organic spreading of the brand.

Image

Promotion

The brand's space theming is fertile soil for memorable visual promotion. Floating peacefully through space is a powerful metaphor for the brand's core message - safe and effective relief from anxiety and sleeplessness.
